  1. The Tampa Riverwalk

    A landscaped path along the Hillsborough River that links parks, museums and restaurants, with river views and the downtown skyline. It is an easy walk from the Channelside area.

  2. Sparkman Wharf

    Just a few blocks from where you board, a cluster of restaurants and bars with outdoor seating and live music. A good place for a lunchtime picture and a last cold drink.

  3. Ybor City

    The historic Latin quarter, about ten minutes from the terminals, known for its Cuban sandwiches and the cigar-rolling storefronts along Seventh Avenue. The free TECO Line Streetcar connects it to downtown.

  4. The Florida Aquarium

    One of downtown Tampa's best-known stops, in the Channelside District close to the terminals, and a dependable rainy-day picture.

  5. Bayshore Boulevard

    A waterfront road with a 4.5 mile sidewalk beside Hillsborough Bay, the second longest continuous sidewalk in the United States after Galveston's Seawall Boulevard. It is a few miles from the terminals and a good place for a walking picture with the bay and the skyline.

How the light works

The sail-away is Tampa's picture. The ship winds down Tampa Bay, and every ship passes under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on its way to the open Gulf, so be on deck with your phone before it gets close. The bridge is a cable-stayed span, so hold the phone upright and let the cables frame the ship. Late afternoon light on the bay is warm and low.

Before you board

The cruise terminals are at 651 Channelside Drive in downtown Tampa, with Terminals 2, 3 and 6 handling cruise ships. Sparkman Wharf and the Riverwalk are close enough to walk, the free TECO Line Streetcar covers the rest, and staying downtown or in Ybor City the night before puts you about ten minutes from the terminals.
